Solar Photovoltaic Arrays: Voltage Measurement & STC conditions

Developed as part of the National Science Foundation's 'EARTh Center' grant, this simulation trains users to correctly measure the voltage of a photovoltaic solar cell array under standard test conditions. Trainees will be walked step-by-step through the process, familiarizing themselves with all the proper equipment, safety protocols, and standardized procedures, before going through the process again on their own.

Gain experience at the array before arriving at the array

By being able to repeat this process in a virtual setting, trainees can approach the actual task of measuring voltage on a solar cell having already familiarized themselves with the process, making their performance quicker, more effective, and more unlikely to involve costly mistakes.

  • Practice the process of measuring voltage on a solar array

  • Learn the safety procedures, hazards, and pitfalls of solar cell voltage measurement safely and remotely

  • Reduce mistakes and increase efficiency when the time comes to practice measurement on a real array

  • Learn, improve, and avoid costly mistakes in real life.

Increasing efficiency in the solar industry workforce

Being able to practice key skills required by the solar industry, like proper voltage measurement, in a repeatable, immersive, and safe environment makes for better-prepared technicians and engineers, and speeds up the training process, so that human trainers have more time to spend on other tasks
